Leila Tong Tackles Difficult Role

Leila Tong has been working on a mainland television drama ‘最後格格’. This series can be said to be the most challenging for Leila as her character must be portrayed from 16 years old to 30 years old. The occupation of her character is certainly tricky, Leila will first play a waitress and then will be forced to marry a court eunuch (太監). Due to such changes in status, Leila will have many ‘looks’ in this series, including a female pretending to be a male (while she is a waiter), a virtuous young woman, a married woman, a horse rider and a bride. But out of all images, Leila likes the waiter look the best. She commented, “This look makes me remember the time I had to imitate a young Leslie Cheung, it was very funny. (Isn’t hurtful when have to bind you chest?) Yes, but thankfully I’m not busty. Leila’s costumes in the series have all been made by hand in Beijing.
The tomboyish Leila prefers her male disguise image instead. "The female costumes are very detailed, making me feel anxious with each movement. However when I wear my male costumes, I feel very free in my movements." (Disguising as a man, does that mean you have to bind your chest?) "I don't find it to be troublesome! That's the benefit of having a small chest! When I was a child actor, I acted as the youth version of Leslie Cheung in a movie. The feeling was awesome!"
Filming will take place at Hengdian, which is quite cold at this moment. Each day Leila will wear heat packets underneath her costumes. However due to the wide sleeves of the costumes, it is easy to lose body heat and suffer the cold. "The top and skirt portions of the costumes are cut loosely, so the wind still penetrates through the layers."
